Creating a Linear Patterned Feature and Refitting it to a Mesh

3D models will sometimes need to have a solid face refit to the mesh due to deformations or imperfections. This tip will show you how to create a linear pattern feature, refit it to a mesh face, and trim it to fit the mesh.

Method

1. Import scan data into the application by going to Insert > Import, clicking the Importicon in the toolbar, or dragging and dropping the file into the opened application.

2. Create two sketches on a feature to prepare the model for a linear pattern in the Mesh Sketch mode.

3. Use the Surface Sweepcommand by going to Insert > Surface > Sweep to sweep the sketches across the surface of the mesh.

4. Use the Linear Patterncommand by going to Insert > Modeling Feature > Linear Pattern. Trim the overlapping areas using the Trimcommand.

5. Use the Linear Patterncommand again and create a pattern that covers the entire mesh by going to Insert > Modeling Feature > Linear Pattern.

6. Use the Accuracy Analyzer™to check for deviation. Note the deviation in the center of the model.

7. Use the Refit tool to refit the linear pattern to the mesh by going to Insert > CAD Correct > Refit.

8. Create a sketch of the shape of the mesh in the Mesh Sketch mode.

9. Extrude the sketch using theExtrude command by going toInsert > Solid > Extrude. Use the Up to Body method to extrude the sketch up to the refitted linear pattern body.

10. Trim off the unnecessary areas of the refitted linear pattern using the Trimcommand by going to Insert > Surface > Trim.

11. The Model will now have a trimmed linear pattern that has been refit to the mesh.
